THE DETAILS
There are three ways to look up information in The Infomercial Index, NAME,
CATEGORY, and PERSONALITY. These are organized into four indexes, NAME,
CATEGORY, PERSONALITY and FULL. Full is indexed by both category and personality.
The NAME INDEX organizes products alphabetically by name. In order to decrease load
times there's a separate page for each letter of the alphabet.
The CATEGORY INDEX separates the products by category and then alphabetically
within each category. There are two versions of this list, one that loads separate pages for each
category, and the FULL INDEX that loads all listings on one page. The separate pages will
save you time if you only intend to look in one or two categories, but the FULL INDEX is
better if you want to do a lot of browsing. With this page you can jump and scroll freely through the
entire index without having to reload any data. This page will take longer to load initially,
though, it's over 150K!
Finally there's the PERSONALITY INDEX that allows searching by any well-known personality
who appears in an infomercial. Like the category index it comes in two versions. The first
calls up small individual pages with products associated just with the selected personality.
The second, the FULL INDEX, is the same one mentioned above that lists all products, sorted by
category with a link list to the personalities. In the frames version
of the FULL INDEX the right frame contains the same page for both category and personality
searching. You can switch back and forth between the category and personality link
lists in the left frame without reloading that huge Full Index file in the right frame. The
non-frames version has category links at the top and personality links
at the bottom of the same page.
It's a lot easier to use than it sounds here. Try it, you'll catch
on really fast.
CHOOSING BETWEEN FRAMES AND NON-FRAMES
There are two versions of the index, the frames version and the non-frames version.
Each version contains the three indexes mentioned above. If you have an older or text only browser it may not support frames, in which case you'll have to use
the non-frames version. If you have a more current browser you have a choice.
We recommend the frames version. You'll do much less scrolling and clicking, making your browsing
more enjoyable.
Both the frames and non-frames versions perform the same functions and contain the same information.
The main differance between the two is the frames version is split into separate windows (frames)
allowing independently scrollable lists of the main index data on the right and indexing word links on the
left. This allows you to scroll through the index while leaving the index links stationary in the other
frame. When jumping to a new index link it's only necessary to load the new page in the right frame.
That lefthand link frame can stay put. Frames also allow us to keep navigation links visible at the top
of the screen at all times.
OUR FRAMES ARE FRIENDLY
If you've visited sites using frames before you know that not all sites code frames in a user friendly way.
We have endeavored to make ours as FRIENDLY as possible. That is, clicking on links will NOT open additional
windows and will usually replace the entire window with your new destination. You will not be left with
pieces of our site and you will not be viewing other sites through one of our frames. The only exception
to replacing the contents of the entire window is when we switch the index link list on the left to
another type that still uses the same main index page on the right. That's one of the NICE things about
frames, there's no need to reload what's already there when making changes to other parts of the screen.
We only use frames on the index pages for the ease of use they provide.
Please let us know if you encounter any difficulties. We don't necessarily know EVERYTHING about frames
or how our coding displays on EVERY browser. Your feedback will help us improve on anything we may have
overlooked and make using our site more enjoyable for everyone. Email to
frames@infomercialindex.com.
